Brake pads are also called brake skins. In the automobile braking system, the brake pad is the key safety part.

All braking effects are determined by the brake pads, so a good brake pad is the protector of people and cars. We should always check the brake pads to see if they need to be replaced.

The replacement time cycle of brake pads and discs is not fixed, which depends on the driving road conditions of the vehicle and the frequency and strength of the driver stepping on the brake pedal. Generally speaking, the service life of the front brake pad is 30000 ~ 50000 km, and the service life of the rear brake pad is 120000 ~ 150000 km.

When replacing the brake pad, the thickness of the brake pad of the disc brake can be checked by stepping on the brake plate, while the thickness of the brake pad on the brake shoe of the drum brake should be checked by pulling the brake shoe out of the brake.

The structure of brake pad is roughly divided into: steel back, friction block and accessories. The steel back shall have sufficient strength and be able to match the installation; The friction block is mainly composed of adhesive layer, (backing layer) friction material; Accessories mainly include silencing film, circlip, alarm or alarm line.

We can also check whether the brake pads should be replaced. Here are some very simple ways to ensure that we can learn them as soon as we learn.

1. Look with your eyes

Check whether the brake pad and brake disc are thin. You can use a small flashlight for observation and inspection. When it is found that the black friction material of the brake pad is rapidly worn out and the thickness is less than 5mm, it should be considered to replace it.

2. Feel the braking force

If you have rich experience, you may feel the brakes are soft when the brake pads are not available. This is the feeling of driving by yourself for many years.

3. Listen to the sound

The brake pad of the old vehicle is not connected to the driving computer, but a small iron plate for alarm is installed on the brake pad. When the friction material is worn away quickly, the brake disc will not wear the brake pad, but the small iron plate for alarm. At this time, the vehicle will make a harsh "chirp" sound of friction between metals, which is the signal to replace the brake pads.
